Discipline Priest Healing Macros and Addons (WoW MoP 5.3)
Macros and addons are an integral part of a raider's arsenal as they can make it easier to perform a variety of tasks, improving your overall game experience. Below, we present macros and addons that can be useful to a Discipline Priest (WoW MoP 5.3). On the right side, you will find links to the other parts of the guide.
This guide has been reviewed and approved by Jhazrun, one of the best Discipline Priests in the world, who raids in Paragon.
1. Macros↑top
1.1. Generic Macros for Priests
1.1.1. Leap of Faith Mouseover Macro
- /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][] Leap of Faith
This macro will cast
Leap of Faith on the target your are currently
mousing over, if it is a friendly target and not dead. Otherwise, it will cast
Leap of Faith on your current target.
1.2. Specific Macros for Discipline Priests
We do highly suggest that all of your heals, as well as other spells that
can be cast on raid members (such as
Levitate, for preventing fall damage)
be incorporated into mouseover macros. This will allow you to much more easily
cast them on raid members.
Here is an example of a mouseover macro. Simply replace
Heal with the
name of the spell you want to use:
- #showtooltip Heal
- /cast [target=mouseover,help,nodead][]Heal
This will cast Heal on your mouseover target, if it is a friendly target and it is not dead. Otherwise, it will cast heal on your current target.
1.2.1. Atonement Macros
To make it easier to deal damage to the boss and benefit from the
Atonement healing, we recommend that you use the following macro for
Penance,
Holy Fire, and
Smite.
- #showtooltip
- /cast [@focus,harm,nodead][harm] Spell
Spell will be replaced with the actual name of the spell.
The Penance macro should be on a different keybind from the normal, healing Penance.
2. Addons↑top
2.1. Generic Addons for Priests
2.1.1. ElvUI
Here, at Icy Veins, we use ElvUI for all our characters. This addon is a complete replacement of the default User Interface. It comes with almost everything you need to perform properly: action bars, cooldown timers, proc display, etc.
We strongly recommend that you get this addon.
2.1.2. Parrot or Mik's Scrolling Battle Text
Parrot and Mik's Scrolling Battle Text are highly customisable addons for displaying floating battle text while in combat (incoming heals, damage of your spells, etc.). They both work very well by default.
2.1.3. Weak Auras
WeakAuras is an extremely useful addon that allows you to have visual effects on your screen, helping you track your buffs, debuffs and cooldowns. It is highly customisable and it can make it much, much easier to keep track of your procs and play your spec more proficiently. It can also be used for a variety of other functions.
2.1.4. Recount
Recount is a well known addon that most people use for displaying current DPS or HPS (Healing Per Second). We advise you to also use it for checking what you take damage from and if the share of damage/healing you do with each of your abilities is similar to that of other players of your class.
A lightweight alternative to Recount is Skada Damage Meter.
2.2. Specific Addons for Discipline Priests
2.2.1. Ingela's Rapture
Ingela's Rapture is a useful addon that allows you to track the internal cooldown on your
Rapture. It is excellent for maximising your Rapture uptime.
3. Changelog↑top
